Iran's "A Separation" wins Oscar for best foreign film

Iranian family drama "A Separation" defeated films from Israel, Belgium, Poland and Canada to win country's first Academy award in the foreign film category. The award has come at a time when the tensions between the Islamic republic and the US are at its peak over Iran's nuclear programme. Directed by Asghar Farhadi, the film also won the best foreign film at the Golden Globes. Farhadi was nominated for a best screenplay Oscar. "At this time, many Iranians all over the world are watching us and I imagine them to be very happy," Farhadi said, reading from prepared remarks on a piece of paper on Sunday night. "They are happy not just because of an important award or a film or a filmmaker, but because at the time when talk of war, intimidation and aggression is exchanged between politicians, the name of their country, Iran, is spoken here through her glorious culture, her rich and ancient culture that has been hidden under the heavy dust of politics."

Rango wins best animated feature Oscar

The Johnny Depp-voiced Rango, an adventure about a colorful chameleon helping a parched desert village to find water, won the best animated feature Oscar on Sunday. The film beat Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, France's A Cat in Paris, and Spain's Chico & Rita. The win by the Paramount-produced movie ended a four-year run of triumphs by Pixar films in the animated feature category of the Academy Awards. Last year's winner was Toy Story 3. Rango tells the story of a lonely chameleon who is used to making up stories -- playing out scenes with a fellow cast of inanimate objects -- and who finds himself stuck in the middle of the desert after a road accident. He ends up in the parched village of Dirt, whose inhabitants ask him to become their sheriff -- after a tour-de-force made-up bar-room scene in which he invents his own backstory and name -- to help them find water.

Octavia Spencer wins supporting actress Oscar for 'The Help'

Octavia Spencer, a first time Oscar nominee, took home the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role as a sassy maid in the 1960s-era drama 'The Help'. "Thank you, world!" said Spencer, who was crying and shaking as she accepted the award. The movie based upon the bestselling novel about the lives of black domestics in the pre-Civil Rights-era South has turned Spencer from character actress into a star since she has won the lion's share of awards this season. She was so overcome she had to be helped onstage by the film's writer-director, Tate Taylor, to a long and boisterous ovation from the star-studded audience at the 84th Academy Awards.

Christopher Plummer wins best supporting actor Oscar

Veteran Hollywood star Christopher Plummer won his long overdue Oscar by taking home best supporting actor trophy for his portrayal of an ailing widower who comes out as gay in "Beginners." The "Sound of Music" star, 84, pointed to his delayed honour by saying that he had been practicing the Oscar speech since he was in his mother's womb. "You're only two years older than me, darling -- where have you been all my life?," the actor joked as he accepted his trophy on Sunday night. Plummer then went on to thank his co-star Ewan McGregor, director Mike Mills and his "long suffering" wife. The actor also joked that he would have liked to share the golden trophy with McGregor but he did not have the "decency". Mills directed the story based on his own father's life.

Michel Hazanavicius wins best director Oscar

French director Michel Hazanavicius beat Hollywood biggies like Martin Scorsese and Woody Allen, to take home the best director Oscar for his adorable silent film "The Artist", a tribute to the early days of moviemaking. It is the first Oscar for the 44-year-old Hazanavicius, who reversed the trend by making a silent, black and white love story. The film revolves around a silent superstar who fails to cope up with Hollywood's transition to sound where as an emerging starlet welcomes the changes in cinema.
Hazanavicius, who also wrote the screenplay and edited the film, has written and directed several French TV productions. Hazanavicius looked overwhelmed as he took to stage to accept his trophy. The director muttered, "I forgot what to say" before recovering his composure. He then went on to thank people involved with the movie for backing a silent film. "The Artist", which has been nominated in 10 categories at the Oscars, brough Hazanavicius to international acclaim. The director's wife Berenice Bejo plays the starlet Peppy Miller in the film while French superstar Jean Dujardin plays the silent movie hero. Hazanavicius was competing against Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life", Woody Allen for "Midnight in Paris", Alexander Payne for "The Descendants" and Martin Scorsese for "Hugo." "The Artist" also won the Golden Globe for best picture.

Jodi Breakers Review & Rating

Jodi Breakers
‎Comedy/Romance‎‎ – Hindi ‎
– Cast: R Madhavan, Bipasha Basu, Omi Vaidya, Dipannita Sharma, Mrinalini Sharma, Milind Soman, Helen.
Review
Filmmaker Ashwini Chaudhary who last made Good Boy Bad Boy comes up with an innovative approach to a romantic comedy but except for a few laughter show type jokes and a forced chemistry between Bipasha and Madhvan, he doesn’t quite manage to pull off much out of this film. The first half is fairly decent. Despite a few lacklustre sequences, there are some funny elements in the film that actually do make you laugh and enjoy. A special mention to Omi Vaidya’s hospital scene. The second half however, dips to unfathomable lows of boredom and monotony. Almost every scene that follows after an interesting twist towards the interval in the first half, is reminiscent of things you have already seen a million times over in various romantic films. The second half almost trudges along like a TV show with a lot of scenes just working only on expressions of two people and those expressions being captured by varied camera angles. Moreover, the Jodi making portion of the film is very stretched and goes on and on endlessly.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya Review & Rating

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya

Romance‎‎ - Hindi
- Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia Dsouza, Om Puri, Tinu Anand, Smita Jaykar, Veena Malik

Review
Mini (Genelia) is a NRI from Kanneda (Canada). Her father Bhatti (Tinu Anand) wants to get her married to a rich household, while Mini is on a lookout of her Mr. Perfect who doesn't quite love her for her green card and has a head above his shoulder. Viren (Riteish Deshmukh) is a rickshaw driver who saves every bit of his earning to turn into a businessman. Being swindled for all his savings, Viren in inebriated state goes to get even with Bhatti while Mini takes advantage of the moment and gets herself kidnapped by Viren. How the two eventually fall in love on their runaway journey is what follows through the rest of the plot. The first half is extremely breezy and humorous where you don't even realize how the time flies. The situations in it may not be too innovative but the way they are handled is what does the trick. The second half does dip in its graph with the entry of Om Puri as Riteish's father in the film and the melodramatic twist takes towards the end which borders on predictability and boredom.

Rohit Shetty’s & SRK Chennai Express Movie

SRK - Rohit Shetty The director is set to take the film on the floors after the release of his next — the Abhishek Bachchan-Ajay Devgn comic-caper Bol Bachchan — this July. ‘It will take another seven months to start work on Chennai Express,’ says the director, who is yet to finalise the female lead of the film. Meanwhile, Shetty has already begun work on the script of Golmaal 4. ‘It became the first trilogy in India. No matter what films I’m making, the Golmaal series will continue. The next one will take another year and a half to start work on,’ he insists. Prod him on whether he will rope in the same cast for the fourth installment as well and he says, ‘I would love to. Every character has created an individual identity. People will not be able to connect to the film if I change them,’ says Shetty. Starring Devgn, the director’s last release, Singham (2011), proved to be a success at the box-office. The film was a remake of a south Indian action flick. Though Shetty is certain that he will revisit the genre again, he has no intention of working on another remake. ‘I am planning a full-fledged action film after I finish the one with Shah Rukh, but it will not be a remake of a southern film,’ confirms Shetty, who bagged the Best Director honour for Singham at the Max Stardust Awards earlier this week.

Mr. Arnab Bagchi Missing – Kahaani Movie

Mumbaikars recently saw a relentless pregnant woman in the railway station frantically searching for her missing husband. Soon there were posters out in the city claiming the search of missing ‘Arnab Bagchi’ all across the streets of Mumbai. It took a lot of time for the common people to make out that these were just publicity going on for the upcoming film of Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘Kahaani’ which has Vidya Balam in the empowering role of an avery pregnant woman in search of her lost husband. In the point of view of some viewers, this marketing strategy is not good enough as it can hurt the sentiments of a large section of the population who might have in any case lost their family members or relatives in reality. The film makers related to this movie however defended their film marketing strategy. On speaking to popular media they said that this marketing strategy was conceptualized and planned by Viacomm 18 and all measures have been kept in mind while executing it. The film maker added that he totally agrees with the strategy and there is no harm in it. He said that below every poster they have put on the streets the movie website was mentioned. According to a large mass of people this type of marketing is insensitive and highly prone to hurt common sentiment of people already suffering from the loss of lost members of their family and friends. The Chief Executive Officer of Studio 18 Vikram Malhotra however denies this and says that this strategy would in fact increase general awareness of the common people against the common problem of people getting lost. Malhotra added that the movie ‘Kahaani’ is set to bring back the lost feeling of mystery and suspense to Hindi cinema and as it is an unique movie it deserves an equally unique idea for the marketing and publicity. He terms this marketing as a ‘clutter breaking campaign’. He says they have put on the missing posters all around the city, they have put it as newspaper inserts in leading newspapers and they have also took the help of social networking sites like facebook to spread the news of the missing ‘Arnab Bagchi’ as the part of their publicity campaign. They have taken the help of other websites too to carry on their execution of the idea. On explaining the widespread and impact of their strategy, Malhotra adds that the lead actress of the movie Vidya Balan went to Khar railway station as a pregnant lady searching frantically for her lost husband. This, acoording to Malhotra, has created a great hype and buzzes around the film and has helped in the success of their marketing plans. The people of Mumbai were confused with the missing posters but according to the marketing team who were handling the execution, they think this marketing act has increased the general awareness and consciousness about missing people. They say that they want to make the people aware through this campaign as presently there are more than 17 lakhs people in India who are missing.
